Attendance

Prompt daily attendance of all students enrolled in Webster Street Academy is required and monitored. Since participation is vital to maximizing the benefit of the program, it is expected that families/guardians will stress and support their child’s attendance.

A telephone call from families/guardians informing Webster Street Academy of the reason for a student’s absence is appreciated and expected. Please call 463-2955 for attendance matters as soon as possible.

Attendance problems are initially dealt with as therapeutic issues. Efforts will be made to identify and correct these issues with the student; however, consistent problems may result in corrective measures, including notifying the child’s home school, notifying the appropriate truancy officer for legal intervention or removal of the student from the program’s enrollment.

Please note that ANY absence from school, even for an acceptable reason (excused absence), counts against your child’s overall participation in the program. Truancy violations and consequences for truancy may still apply to you and your child.

Arrival and Departure
Webster Street Academy does NOT accept responsibility for any child before or after program hours. All students MUST immediately enter the building upon arrival. No student will be allowed to loiter in or near the parking area; therefore, we request that parents/guardians who drive students to school do not leave until their child has entered the building in the morning and are on time to pick their child up in the afternoon. Students arriving by school transportation MUST enter the building immediately after being dropped off.

Tardiness
Late arrivals will be documented and monitored. Consistent episodes of tardiness are initially dealt with as therapeutic issues. Efforts will be made to identify and correct these issues with the student; however, excessive problems may result in corrective measures as outlined above.

Students who do not report to the program by a certain time each day may be DENIED admission to the program and marked absent unless they have a note from a physician or their parent/guardian indicating an acceptable reason for their late arrival. The cut-off times for each program are:

Morning Program – 9:15 am
All Day Program – 9:15 am
Afternoon Program – 1:45 pm

Attendance incentives are awarded, along with Honor Roll and Reading Program prizes, at the end of every quarter (including summer session). Awards are given for Perfect Attendance (100% daily attendance), Excellent Attendance (at least 90% daily attendance), or Honorable Mention (at least 80% daily attendance). It is important to know that the amount of days tardy can eliminate a child’s eligibility to receive an attendance incentive.
