Student Health

In keeping with the concept that healthy children are better equipped to learn, grow and maximize their potential, Webster Street Academy encourages families/guardians to make sensible decisions regarding your child’s health.

Medications
Prescription medications may be accepted for administration and monitoring for students, enrolled in the full day program, provided they are currently under the care of Eastway’s Family Center physician. Students who are under the care of another physician may not be eligible for the medication monitoring program. Students will not be able to participate in the medication monitoring program until his/her parent or legal guardian has made arrangements with the Program Nurse. Appointments with the Nurse are available and may be scheduled from Monday through Friday between 8:30 am and 4:30 pm (call 463-2955).

Over-the-counter medications (e.g., Pepto Bismal, Tylenol, Sudafed, Pepcid, Imodium) are strictly prohibited from being dispensed or stored at Webster Street Academy. Any parent/guardian, who wants their child to receive such medications during program hours, must dispense the medication themselves to their child in person.

Wellness
Webster Street Academy promotes overall health and wellness by providing an array of proactive programs designed to encourage healthy lifestyles. Participation in these programs is based on needs identified through various screenings. Diet and exercise, adequate rest, tobacco use prevention, avoiding high risk behaviors, and prevention of spreading disease, are just a few of the topics identified to help students make more appropriate and informed choices.

Student Illness
It is expected that parents/guardians will refrain from sending their child to the program if the child is not feeling well. In the event that a child displays any illness that interferes with their learning (or the learning of others), the child’s parent/guardian will be immediately notified and asked to make arrangements for the child to go home. For students who present with a significant illness, Webster Street Academy reserves the right to refuse admittance to the program without a doctor’s written release.
