Transportation
It is the sole responsibility of the parent/guardian to provide transportation or work with the student’s home school system to ensure transportation needs are met. A variety of options have been made available by the partnering school systems, including school system buses, reimbursing parents for travel, providing RTA bus passes/tokens, and securing private transportation agencies.
RTA (Regional Transportation Authority)
RTA has a bus stop located one block from Webster Street Academy. This stop is on the southwest corner of the intersection of Keowee and Webster streets. The number 22 bus shuttles to downtown Dayton where students can transfer to a number of other lines. The bus number 22 schedule is available in the reception area at The Family Center. Under new RTA rules, students are reminded that they will not be allowed to board RTA buses at the corner of 3rd and Main.
Bus Stop Expectations All students are expected to conduct themselves as young ladies and gentlemen. Students riding the RTA are asked to wait at the bus stop at the corner of Webster and Keowee, where staff supervision (afternoon only) is provided. Students are strictly prohibited from entering the private property of nearby houses, even if the house is abandoned. Students are expected to behave in accordance with all safety rules such as standing on the curb (not the street), crossing the street at the crosswalk and when the signal indicates to cross (not just when there are no cars around). Running, pushing, and play fighting are also prohibited. Please be advised that any student who waits at an alternative bus stop or walks away from the supervised bus stop does so at his/her own risk.
Note: Any student violating these rules or conducting themselves with extreme disrespect or disregard for others while en route to or from Webster Street Academy, my be subject to immediate discharge from the program.
Student Vehicles/Driving Students may drive themselves to Webster Street Academy and Family Center. This is a privilege, however, which will be immediately revoked if the student demonstrates unsafe/inappropriate behavior or violates any of the following rules:
• Upon arrival to the property, the student must immediately exit the car and enter the building.
• No other student may sit in the vehicle at any time.
• Carpooling is only permitted with coordinated permission of both parents.
• Providing rides to another student, without expressed consent from their parent/guardian is prohibited, especially if that student is scheduled to ride their school system’s bus.
Parking Lot Guidelines In an effort to ensure safety, Webster Street Academy and Family Center has a ONE WAY traffic flow in the parking lot. The flow is clearly marked by arrows painted on the blacktop. The north driveway (next to Aramark) is an ENTRANCE ONLY, while the south driveway (next to the McGuffy School) is an EXIT ONLY. For the safety of the students, please remember to drive slowly through the parking lot. All cars should refrain from driving in the outside lane which is clearly indicated for “Buses Only”.
